If this happens to you, it’s no big deal. We are here to help you fix this problem. This is actually one of the biggest problems in replacing your own tail lights or turn signals, but don’t worry. We are here to help.
This is probably how it all went down: you get home from work and see a brown little box waiting for you. You get really happy once you realize that it’s the new lights you ordered. You run outside to put them on and finish the day by washing your car. The next day, you see that one of the lenses are fogged up and the other has a bit of water inside the lens.
Don’t get upset, this is a common problem. Usually what happens is when you take off your old tail light lenses, you forgot to replace the rubber foam gasket which seals up the hole that you twist the bulb into. Over the years of use, the old gasket wasn’t sealing the new area. Some people call this fish bowl syndrome.
There’s a tiny foam thingy in the bulb socket. When you push the bulbs and twist, the gasket compresses and seals the hole. This will help eliminate any water. This small gasket is always over looked when you install tail lenses. Once the gasket has been compressed for awhile, it usually doesn’t spring back, which won’t seal the new area.
So how do you fix this problem? One way is to go out and buy a brand new gasket. Just about any auto shop around should carry this product. Or another thing you can do is use petroleum jelly to seal the gasket. Just by spreading a small thing of petroleum jelly on the gasket will help it seal itself to the new surface temporarily.
This works for any vehicle. Tricking out your automobile with clear tail lights and mirror bulbs really adds something special to your vehicle. Not only will you notice the difference, everybody that sees your vehicle will notice too. It’s a tiny modification that really makes your car or truck stand out.
